Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) launched the 2022 Disaster Preparedness Day (HKB) themed "Disaster Resilient Families, Pillars of the Nation in Facing Disasters."

"This year's HKB theme is 'Disaster Resilient Families, Pillars of the Nation in Facing Disasters,' and the main message is being ready to survive," BNPB Deputy for Prevention Prasinta Dewi M.A.P. noted in her remarks at the online launch of HKB 2022 here on Monday.

The deputy invited all levels of society and every stakeholder to actively participate in the event to be held until the end of April 2022.

Based on the World Risk Index for 2021, Indonesia is ranked 38th out of the 181 countries most vulnerable to disasters, according to Prasinta.

"Disaster preparedness needs to be built from the very beginning, starting from the smallest family environment, preparing the community to face threats, determining the size of the risks and the impacts of disasters that might occur," she stated.

Making disaster mitigation efforts is a shared responsibility, she emphasized.

Disaster Preparedness Day is initiated by the BNPB to increase public awareness of the importance of knowledge and understanding of disaster risks, foster a culture of disaster awareness, and train skills on appropriate ways to save oneself from disasters.

"Hence, the BNPB along with various parties, by adopting a pentahelic approach, invites the community to increase capacity by equipping themselves with knowledge of recognizing disaster risks and threats in their area, skills to save themselves and be able to survive and recover quickly, and to rebuild life after being hit by a disaster," the deputy noted.

The BNPB invites all parties to participate in HKB 2022 by ringing signs simultaneously, such as gongs and bells, on April 26, 2022, at 10 a.m. local time, as a sign of starting to evacuate themselves and immediately heading to the nearest safe place from disaster.
