Jakarta (ANTARA) - The first meeting of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG), which took place in Senggigi, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), focused on digital literacy and skills related to digitization.

"The DEWG participating countries generally agree that digital literacy and skills related to digitization are an important part in discussing the digital ecosystem," the G20 DEWG alternate chair, Dedy Permadi, said in a press release received here on Thursday.

In general, delegates from G20 member countries agreed that it is important to cover aspects related to digital literacy and skills in digital ecosystem discussions. However, there are still a number of important points that need to be addressed.

The delegates highlighted aspects of vulnerable groups' participation to bridge the digital gap, the digital literacy gap, and efforts to reduce digital inequality.

Several delegates from G20 member countries provided clarifications and raised concerns regarding the determination of criteria for vulnerable groups and the reasons for including these groups as vulnerable groups, among other concerns, Permadi informed.

The delegates also submitted proposals to consider aspects beyond information and communication technology in building digital literacy and skills.

"In addition, they also raised an issue regarding the need to include non-Information Communication Technology (ICT) aspects in this priority issue," Permadi said

The delegates requested a more in-depth discussion on digital platforms and plans to implement digital literacy and capability indicators, as well as the added value of these indicators.

"On the various inputs, the Presidency will respond at the next DEWG meeting," he said.

As the supervisor of the G20 DEWG, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has encouraged discussions on three priority issues, namely connectivity and post-COVID-19 recovery, digital literacy and skills, and cross-country data flows.

The first DEWG meeting was held in a hybrid format at Aruna Sengigi Hotel, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, from March 29 to 30, 2022. G20 delegates attended the meeting virtually.

In addition to member countries, Global Knowledge Partners and National Knowledge Partners also took part in the first DEWG meeting. (
