Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) paid a visit to Kedaton Temple at the Muaro Jambi Temple Compound National Cultural Conservation Site in Muaro Jambi District, Jambi, on Thursday afternoon.

The head of state witnessed up close ancient marvels in the ancient Hindu temple compound during his visit, as the conserved temple structures showed that no cement mixture was used during the construction process.

"Once we enter the site, what we are seeing are brick structures that have aged for more than a thousand years, as the temple structure was constructed in the 7th century," Jokowi remarked while delivering his remarks during the visit.

Jokowi noted that the Muaro Jambi temple compound was considered as one of the largest educational facilities in the past, as the site was where the development of theology, medicine and pharmacy, philosophy, architecture, and arts had occurred in ancient times.

"The meaning of this is that our past civilization had been open and internationalized. This is a part of history that we need to preserve to ensure that traces of our past civilization would be known by future generations," he emphasized.
