Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) has lauded all parties for remaining committed to ensuring the protection of women and children by accelerating the ratification of the sexual violence crime bill (RUU TPKS) into law.



"I can say that this law is the result of the hard work from all elements of the nation, not only the government and the House of Representatives (DPR)," KSP head Moeldoko said in a press release issued here on Wednesday.



He emphasized that various stakeholders took part in perfecting the substance and formal process of formulating the sexual violence crime law (UU TPKS), ranging from civil society groups, academics, religious groups, and even the judiciary.

The UU TPKS is a monumental law because, substantively, it will have a significant impact in terms of bringing Indonesia out of the emergency of sexual violence, he noted.



"Various arrangements in UU TPKS ranging from aspects of prevention, criminal acts, to victim recovery will provide protection and justice, especially for victims of sexual violence, as well as a clear legal umbrella for law enforcement officers in carrying out law enforcement functions," he remarked.



Support for the acceleration of the passing of UU TPKS built up since April 2022. At that time, the KSP head had formed a cross-ministerial/institutional task force chaired by Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights, Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej.

Deputy V of KSP was also involved in the task force, which consistently supervised the formulation of the sexual violence crime law.



Earlier on Tuesday, the House of Representatives approved the Draft of the Sexual Violence Crimes Bill to be passed into law during a plenary meeting led by House Speaker Puan Maharani.



The draft law was proposed in 2016, but its passage over the course of six years until 2022 posed several difficulties. However, many people called for its ratification.
