Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The 67th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference (KAA) offers a momentum to raise the spirit of world peace, West Java Deputy Governor Uu Ruzhanul Ulum stated in Bandung on Monday.

"We are sure that the Dasasila Bandung (10-point agreement) that resulted in the Asia-Africa Conference is still relevant to today's conditions and situations. Peace is needed by countries worldwide," Ulum remarked at the 67th anniversary event of KAA at the Merdeka Building field.

According to Ulum, the KAA momentum can remind the world about maintaining peace with anyone.

The West Java deputy governor also noted that the KAA commemoration this year also drew global attention to Palestine's people, who until now continue to face conflicts. Hence, he appealed to the public, especially of Islam countries, to pray together during the Ramadan holy month for peace in Palestine.

"I hope that through this historic day, countries worldwide would give attention to Palestine's people, who still face conflicts and tensions," he stated.

Meanwhile, an expert diplomat of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Teguh Wardoyo, commented that the KAA momentum is a pride not only for the Bandung people but also for all of Indonesia, as the conference has impacts on Asian and African nations.

"Quoting President Soekarno's speech at the opening of KAA 67 years ago, 'There is no any urgent task other than maintaining peace,'" Wardoyo stated.

Wardoyo remarked that without peace, independence and development of a country would hold no meaning.

Furthermore, he noted that this year's KAA commemoration themed "Recover Together, Recover Stronger" aligned with the spirit of solidarity and cooperation to build Asian and African countries that are mainly voiced in Soekarno's speech.

"This theme carries a universal message for together recovering the economy post-pandemic for Indonesia's national interest and also Asia-Africa," he affirmed.
