I highly appreciate the Spanish government's commitment to continue to support Indonesia's sovereignty,
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has lauded the Spanish government's commitment to supporting the sovereignty of Indonesia, which is continuing to strengthen its territorial integrity.

"I highly appreciate the Spanish government's commitment to continue to support Indonesia's sovereignty," Amin remarked while receiving the Spanish Ambassador to Indonesia, Francisco Aguilera Aranda, at the Vice Presidential Office, here, on Monday.

Both Spain and Indonesia should affirm their joint commitment to upholding territorial integrity, particularly when separatist efforts are threatening the security of the two countries, he said.

The vice president also expressed the hope that the Spanish government would support Indonesia's G20 Presidency in addressing a wide range of global economic challenges.

He stressed that Indonesia's G20 Presidency has continued to encourage the creation of peace and underline the significance of stopping the war in Ukraine.

Indonesia will not ignore developing countries' expectations of G20's concrete efforts to deal with the post-COVID-19 pandemic economic impact, he said.

He further urged close cooperation between Indonesia and Spain in the religious, cultural, and educational fields as part of efforts to foster mutual understanding between the two countries' communities.

Responding to the Vice President's expectation, the Spanish Ambassador said that Spain is a permanent guest at the G20 forum so the country deems it necessary to cooperate with Indonesia.

Aranda also assured that Spain supports Indonesia's sovereignty in the same way as Indonesia supports Spain's sovereignty.

"To support the sovereignty, we also respect the principles and norms of international rules, particularly those related to sea conventions,” he said.

With regard to interfaith dialog, he said he believed that Indonesia and Spain have the same mechanism for supporting and promoting harmonious religious life.
