Bandung (ANTARA) - The Transportation Service of West Java province has predicted that the peak of the 2022 Eid al-Fitr homecoming will occur on April 29 and 30, while the peak date for return travel will be May 8.

It has also estimated that a surge in the number of vehicles will occur between 7-9 a.m. local time.

Head of the West Java Provincial Transportation Service, Koswara, said that the number of Eid homecomers is predicted to reach 85.5 million nationwide.

Of that number, around 14.9 million people, or about 17.2 percent of the total homecomers, will head to West Java region outside the Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi (Bodebek) areas.

Meanwhile, 5.9 million or about 7.0 percent homecomers will enter the Jakarta and Bodebek areas.

Central Java will be the main destination for Eid homecoming travelers, with 23.5 million people likely to enter the region, while East Java is expected to attract 16.8 million travelers.

The West Java Province Transportation Service has estimated that the number of West Java residents who will leave the region will reach 9.2 million. Meanwhile, 14 million people will leave Jakarta and Bodebek.

"It is estimated that 4.5 million travelers will pass through West Java. They will cross arterial roads, to alternative routes and toll roads," Koswara said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, secretary of the West Java Transportation Service, Idat Rosana, informed that the vehicles used by travelers will be dominated by private vehicles, either cars or motorbikes.

Cars are expected to account for 28.6 percent and motorcycles around 21.5 percent of the transportation modes. The rest of the homecomers will use public transportation such as city buses (17.38 percent), trains (9.7 percent), planes (8.13 percent), and sea/river routes.

His office has estimated that travelers with cars will tend to rest in rest areas, either on toll roads or arterial roads. Meanwhile, motorists will prefer to rest at gas stations.

"We will anticipate the accumulation of vehicles during breaks at rest areas and at gas stations to avoid traffic," he informed.

The West Java Transportation Service will deploy five thousand personnel during the 2022 Eid homecoming. The personnel will be deployed on the homecoming route to the posts along the road in West Java.

The Transportation Service has prepared a number of anticipatory measures for the homecoming period, including providing integrated transportation information through 'Lebaran Si Manis' and live-streaming traffic conditions via radio and the Internet.

The West Java Transportation Agency has also prepared homecoming posts at airport terminals, docks, and rest areas at a total of 42 points.
