Jakarta (ANTARA) - First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo stated that the 2022 Kartini Day commemoration should be interpreted as an era of women's awakening against the COVID-19 pandemic as well as restoring the economy.

"As we aspire together, we can immediately realize Onward Indonesia," Widodo stated during the commemoration of Kartini Day 2022 at the State Palace here on Thursday.

According to the First Lady, national hero R.A. Kartini had striven and fought for Indonesian women to be equal to men in every aspect of life. Hence, women can contribute to the development of the family and country.

Kartini's fight has also inspired many Indonesian women to serve and achieve many things, either regionally, nationally, or internationally, Widodo stressed.

The first lady mentioned that the 144th anniversary of Kartini Day in 2022 was still in a pandemic situation. However, due to the hard work of all parties, including women, the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia could be brought under control.

"I would like to thank all women health workers and all Indonesian women, who have fought to control the pandemic in the country," she affirmed.

Widodo also expressed her condolences to the Indonesian women, who died at the forefront of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
