Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transportation, along with the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, released 111 buses carrying homecoming travelers embarking on the free Eid homecoming trips from the Pulogebang Integrated Terminal, East Jakarta, Friday.

Some 111 buses were released in the context of the free exodus trips organized by the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) at two terminals in DKI Jakarta.

"The Ministry of Transportation released 111 buses. The total number of passengers reached 3,330,” Head of the Sub-Division of Administration for the Pulogebang Integrated Terminal Management Unit, Junaedi, stated at Pulogebang, Friday.

Junaedi remarked that most buses took travelers to Central Java, West Java, and East Java.

"Most are (headed to) Central Java, specifically Wonogiri and Solo, and then to Yogyakarta and Surabaya," he stated.

With the homecoming program, the Pulogebang Integrated Terminal was crowded with people. Junaedi estimates that today will be the peak of the departure for exodus.

Over three thousand people are estimated to depart from the Pulogebang Integrated Terminal.

"Yesterday, people departing from Pulogebang Terminal had reached 2,700. Now, it is estimated to reach three thousand more," he remarked.

Hence, his side had made several preparations to ensure that this year's homecoming activities run safely and smoothly.

One of the preparations entail checking the condition of the bus and the health of the driver before commencement of the trip.

Junaedi spoke of also having readied an internal security post to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers at the terminal.

The Jakarta Police estimated that some 3.6 million people had departed from Jakarta in four-wheeled vehicles to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in their respective hometowns, such as in Java or Sumatra.

"If looking at the statistics of vehicles leaving Jakarta as of today (April 28, 2022), the number was around 74 thousand yesterday (April 27), and if we calculate the total from the seventh day leading to Eid, a total of 900 thousand vehicles departed from Jakarta, and if each vehicle has four people aboard, then about 3.6 million (people)," Jakarta Police chief, Inspector General Fadil Imran, stated while reviewing the Cikampek Toll Gate on Thursday.

Based on data from the Ministry of Transportation, some seven million people will leave Jakarta during the Eid al-Fitr holiday season in 2022, Imran added.

"According to a statistical survey of the Transportation Ministry, about seven million people will leave Jakarta in four-wheeled vehicles, so (the number of people leaving Jakarta as of April 28) is already more than half of the estimate," he remarked.

According to data from state highway operator PT Jasa Marga, at least 951,758 vehicles had left Jakarta from the 10th to fifth day leading to Eid, or April 22–27.
