Surabaya (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa reminded regional heads in the province to check tourism facilities in each district and city following an incident of a collapsed water slide in Surabaya on May 7.

"This aims to anticipate unwanted incidents, such as that at the Kenpark swimming pool, from occurring elsewhere," Parawansa noted at the East Java Governor's Office, Surabaya, Monday.

Parawansa also urged regional heads to ensure that the calibration process is conducted regularly and ascertain that all game facilities are safe and suitable for use.

She emphasized that in future, the calibration test should be intensified to ensure the safety and suitability of all rides at the theme park and tourism facilities.

Earlier, one of the water slides in Kenpark, Surabaya, collapsed on May 7, resulting in injuries to 17.

Until now, the police and construction team are still investigating the cause of the incident that occurred during the peak of the 2022 Eid holiday season.

Parawansa expressed her concern and visited those injured along with Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, as well as prayed for their well-being.

Meanwhile, Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi stated that his side had made an appeal and issued a letter to all tourist site managers to check their facilities ahead of the Eid holiday.

"I emphasize again to every investor, who invests in the tourism park in Surabaya, to have a permit and schedule a periodic maintenance for their rides to avoid the incident in Kenpark from occurring in other places," he stressed.

He also noted that the Surabaya City Government would evaluate the rides at other theme parks and tourists destinations.

The former head of the Regional Development Planning Agency, Research, and Development (Bappeko) Surabaya affirmed that every manager and investor in tourist destinations should be able to provide a report on the feasibility result.
