Jakarta (ANTARA) - The cultural event titled ‘Nuwur Kukuwung Ranu’ held at the Segara Danu Batur Temple, Bangli District, Bali Province, is closely related to the environment preservation attempts, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar has assessed.

She said in a statement received here on Sunday that the art performance and exhibition is a great event to promote natural conservation and environmental preservation attempts, including the ones held at various lakes throughout Indonesia.

The art performance holds significant message since Lake Batur has become a national priority lake to be revitalized from various environmental threats, such as environmental pollution and shallowing, the minister added.

She stated that Balinese art and culture can be utilized as a medium to keep encouraging the community in preserving the environment.

In addition, the activities can also serve as a cultural strategy to protect and restore the nature.

"Hence, the implementation of art and culture performance is an important locomotion to establish an ideal future," Bakar stated.

"It is an extraordinary collaboration capable of driving the people’s economic activity, while at the same time preserving the traditional cultural arts," the minister remarked.

The Chairperson of the Kauhan Ubud Temple Foundation, AAGN Ari Dwipayana, informed that the performance was held on a special day as it coincided with Tumpek Wariga – a Hindu day commemorated 25 days before the Galungan Day to express gratitude to God over plants and natural resources.

"Hence, the performance reflects not only the spiritual aspect, but also the ecological aspect," he said.

He added that the ‘Nuwur Kukuwung Ranu’ performance was an educative way to increase the community’s awareness in protecting the environment, especially water conservation through an art and cultural approach.
