Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has encouraged the creation of a global partnership in realizing access to sanitation and safe drinking water that was currently only accessible to a segment of the world's population.

"We must continue to strengthen global partnerships in dealing with these multidimensional problems," the vice president stated while opening the Sanitation and Water For All Sector Ministers' Meeting 2022 in Jakarta, Wednesday.

The vice president remarked that currently, some two billion people do not have good access to safe drinking water, and over three billion people do not have access to safe sanitation facilities.

Amin noted that over 90 percent of the population in Indonesia had access to safe drinking water, but the achievement of access to safe drinking water reached only around 11 percent.

Meanwhile, currently, some 80 percent of the population in Indonesia had access to proper sanitation, while only seven percent of the population enjoyed safe sanitation facilities.

The vice president conveyed that based on the spirit of encouraging global partnerships to realize sanitation and safe drinking water, Indonesia will host the World Water Forum in 2024.

Through the Sector Ministers Meeting Sanitation and Water For All 2022, the vice president conveyed three points, with the first being, he invited all parties to strengthen their joint commitment globally to increase public access to sanitation and safe drinking water. According to Amin, the strong commitment of the country's leaders will encourage the mobilization of necessary resources.

Secondly, the vice president invites all parties to use the forum as a place to learn from each other and exchange information about best practices in a country or region, so that it can be emulated in other countries or regions.

Third, he invites all parties to use the forum to develop networks and collaborations because the government's success is also determined by the involvement of the business world, philanthropic organizations, professional organizations, academics, media, and non-governmental organizations.

"I urge that this meeting provides concrete results and agreements. We want to move forward together, recover together, and move towards a healthier and more sustainable world community," the vice president noted.
