Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director-General of Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), Wikan Sakarinto, encourages the continuity of vocational research culture in order to reduce equipment imports.

"The culture of vocational research must continue to be encouraged. I also hope the results of the research would be launched to the market," he stated at the online introduction of the domestic Ship Simulator product in Jakarta, Friday.

He lauded the ship simulator made through vocational education as a result of collaboration between 30 vocational schools and universities.

A ship simulator is a system that simulates ships and maritime environments for training, research, and other purposes.

The digital ship simulation product was introduced by the Center for Quality Assurance Development for Vocational Education in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Sector (BBPPMPV-BMTI).

He later explained that the results of successful vocational research are those that enable to create a product that can be used by the community. Product from research would become a waste without exhibition, he emphasized.

"Do not just make products as a means to satisfy those researches," Sakarinto affirmed.

Head of BBPPMPV-BMTI, Supriyono, noted that the ship simulator development was based on opportunities read by vocational students, specifically the major need for marine transportation in Indonesia.

He is optimistic that domestic shipping schools or shipping study programs would no longer import ship simulators from abroad, but would instead use ship simulators made by the vocational students and domestic industry.

"This ship simulator product has been included in the national e-catalog. It can be ordered by agencies that need it. We hope that this product would not only meet the educational needs but also industrial needs in the future," Supriyono noted.

Indonesia has, so far, imported ship simulators worth Rp4 billion to tens of billions per product, he stated.
