Jakarta (ANTARA) - Digitalization could be one way to ensure the sustainability of women and youth-run micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), central executive of the Indonesian Economist Association (ISEI), Ina Primiana, has said.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has forced and pushed women and youth's MSMEs to enter Industry 4.0, namely doing business online or digitally due to changes in people's spending patterns," she noted at a webinar entitled "The Empowerment of Women's MSMEs for Financial Inclusion,” which was accessed here on Friday.

Based on the Saskawa Peace Foundation & Dalberg record, the number of Indonesian entrepreneurs has reached 21 percent or higher than the global average of 8 percent.

Indonesia does not currently have a shortage of entrepreneurs, as seen by the country placing 45th out of 100 countries in the 2021 Entrepreneur Index, Primiana pointed out.

However, Indonesian entrepreneurs are still less innovative than entrepreneurs in other countries, as noted in the 2021 Global Innovation Index, which placed Indonesia 87th out of 132 countries.

Primiana highlighted that women and youth-run MSMEs must be creative in producing their goods and content for online marketing.

"MSMEs also need to adopt a startup mindset to be able to develop faster, especially to accelerate their business and target market," she said.

Women and youth-run MSMEs also need to be given access so that their products can be recognized by a broader market abroad, she added.

According to her, MSME products must be used by government officials and promoted through social media.

They must also be used for government activities or programs, government and state-owned enterprise spending, and be included in large exhibitions held by the government.
