Jakarta (ANTARA) - After the development of halal industrial areas in Sidoarjo, East Java, and Cikarang, West Java, several regional heads have evinced an interest in establishing such areas in their regions, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has said.

"After we launched the initiative in Sidoarjo (East Java) and Cikarang (West Java), several governors also said that they wanted to develop a halal industrial area," she stated after the second plenary meeting of the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNEKS), which was presided by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin here on Monday.

According to Indrawati, the plan to establish halal industrial areas needs to be supported by ministries and institutions so that sharia economic actors can enter the prospective halal industrial areas.

To this end, she urged ministries and institutions to create programs, such as incentives, and also facilities that can be enjoyed by sharia entrepreneurs entering the halal industrial areas.

"Including inviting economic players to enter the halal industrial areas, explain the benefits and advantages so that they will be interested, and share priorities and facilities that can be utilized," the minister added.

Those programs are among the ones that the Vice President has asked to be accelerated to make Indonesia a major global halal producer, she noted.

The development of the halal industry will be in line with the Indonesian Halal Industry Master Plan, which is being prepared for the 2022–2029 period. The master plan is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2022 and will be included in the Government Work Plan, the National Medium-Term Development Plan, and the National Long-Term Development Plan.

Meanwhile, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that he will form a Regional Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance to build the institution of KNEKS in each region and accelerate the realization of Indonesia's dream of becoming a global halal hub.

"We will build the institutions in regions by establishing a Regional Committee for Islamic Economy in all provinces," the Vice President said.
