Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and state-owned enterprise PT Telkom Indonesia's Indonesia Telecommunication Digital Research Institute (ITDRI) will collaborate on research to develop three priority sectors: fishery, agribusiness, and technology-based tourism.

"This research collaboration is planned in six months and will be continued in accordance with the three-stage development scheme," BRIN official Bahtiar Rifai informed in a statement posted on the agency's official website on Saturday.

The three-stage development will encompass BRIN's technology validation and basic study, collaboration promotion and program design, as well as the implementation stage, he said.

The cooperation has been formalized through the signing of a research cooperation draft between senior general manager of Telkom University and chairman of ITDRI, Jemy V. Confido, and head of BRIN's Macro and Finance Research Center (PREKM), Zamroni.

The pact’s signing was witnessed by the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry's technology and information assistant deputy M. Rijal Kamal and head of BRIN's Governance, Economy, and People's Prosperity Research Organization, Agus Eko Nugroho.

The research cooperation is expected to provide research-based solutions that could have a significant impact on Indonesia's economy.

Kamal said that innovation and business must go side-by-side for the sake of realizing Indonesia's 2024 economic development vision.

SOEs can encourage new technology, which is supported by research development from the government, to become more advanced, he added.

"There are many potential programs that we can develop together. This is an opportunity for the business sector to enter the government's program to expedite budget," he said.

Earlier, BRIN and the Costa Rican Embassy in Indonesia had explored research cooperation in the field of agriculture.

Specifically, the embassy sought to explore the potential for technology research, Ambassador of Costa Rica to Indonesia, Esteban Quiros Salazar, said in a statement posted on BRIN's official website on Monday.
