Jakarta (ANTARA) - Zulkifli Hasan's long experience in the field will come in handy in the discharge of his duties as Trade Minister, especially for maintaining the availability of staple foods in the community, President Joko Widodo has said.

"We look at everything, the track record, experience, and managerial abilities,” President Joko Widodo said after the induction of new ministers and deputy ministers into the Onward Indonesia Cabinet at the Presidential Palace here on Wednesday.

The President has appointed Hasan as Minister of Trade in place of Muhamad Lutfi.

According to the President, field experience is necessary for a minister in order to observe the real conditions experienced by the community.

"Currently, food affairs related to the people require field experience and work that goes into the field to see firsthand the problems, which are mainly related to the people's basic needs," he said.

The President also asked Hasan to increase Indonesia's exports while maintaining the availability of staple food stocks in the country.

Besides inaugurating Hasan as the Trade Minister, the President also appointed Hadi Tjahjanto as Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning and head of the National Land Agency in place of Sofyan Djalil on Wednesday.

Presidential Decision No. 64P of 2022 on the inauguration of state ministers of the Onward Indonesia Cabinet for the 2019–2024 period, enacted on Wednesday (June 15, 2022), served as the legal basis for the inauguration of the two ministers.

Hasan is the current chairperson of the National Mandate Party (PAN) and served as the speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly from 2014 to 2019.

Meanwhile, Tjahjanto was the commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) for the 2017–2021 period.

The President also inaugurated three new deputy ministers during the ceremony: John Wempi Wetipo as Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Afriansyah Noor as Deputy Minister for Manpower, and Raja Juli Antoni as Deputy Minister for Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Deputy Head of the National Land Agency.

Presidential Decision No. 24M of 2022 on the termination and inauguration of deputy ministers of the Onward Indonesia Cabinet for the 2019–2024 period—which was read out by Ministry of State Secretariat official, Nanik Purwanti—served as the legal basis for the inauguration of the deputy ministers.
