Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the Governor of Yogyakarta special province and king of Yogyakarta Sultanate, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, on Friday to discuss environmental planning.

The Sultan and his daughters greeted President Steinmeier and his entourage upon their arrival at Yogyakarta Palace around 3 p.m. local time on Friday.

Before the discussion, the Sultan invited Steinmeier to take a look at the palace's collection of batiks, ceramics, leather puppets, and manuscripts.

The Sultan’s first daughter, HB X GKR Mangkubumi, said the discussion with Steinmeier focused on environmental planning.

"The discussion focused on the speciality of Yogyakarta and the environment. Germany has advanced technology and research in terms of environment," she informed.

She then expressed the hope that following the visit, there will be a collaboration between Yogyakarta and Germany to deal with the environmental issues faced by the province.

"Of course, we are looking forward to collaborating with them to manage environmental issues in Yogyakarta," she said.

Both Germany and Yogyakarta share the same concern about conserving cultural heritage, particularly architecture, she added.

"We told them that we want to preserve the existing cultural heritages in Yogyakarta, and Germany has much concern about cultural heritages, including houses, old buildings,” she said.

Steinmeier met Sri Sultan HB X as part of his state visit to Indonesia to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Germany. (INE)
