We are going to keep moving
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan has said that his administration's performance will not slow down despite the end of his office term drawing near.

Baswedan’s term will end in October 2022.

"Don't be like just because our duty last for a few months more, then (our work performance) slow down. Of course not. We are going to keep moving," he remarked here on Wednesday.

He assured that all programs in Jakarta will continue to run well even though his term will end in less than four months.

He also said that the programs will not end in October.

"As long as Jakarta exists, there will be programs. The term of office period will end in October, but if there are programs and activities, they will continue," he affirmed.

The Governor led Jakarta’s 495th anniversary celebrations this year, after the event was hosted online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The anniversary event was the last one scheduled before the end of his term.

Baswedan commended the development of Jakarta city and lauded everyone involved in this development.

He cited the collaboration and struggle of Jakarta residents in the past, present, and future as the reason for the city's successful development.

"We need to briefly contemplate on the development of Jakarta in the past, present, as well as prospects for the future development of this city that we love," he remarked.

Meanwhile, member of Commission B of the Jakarta House of Representatives, Gilbert Simanjuntak, said that the Jakarta Governor was more focused on the 2024 election.

"When Jakarta's air is the most polluted globally, Baswedan's focus seems to be more on the presidential election," Simanjuntak said in a press statement received here on Monday (June 20, 2022).

He highlighted air pollution as one of Jakarta's issues.

The pollution has reduced the life expectancy of residents by four years and is more dangerous than AIDS and other illnesses, he opined.

"The latest data on June 17, which stated that Jakarta's air is the most polluted in the world, not once he was heard of making initiatives to save Jakarta people," he said.
