Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Agriculture Ministry has proposed a budget of Rp4.6 trillion, sourced from the National Economic Recovery funding, for handling the foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak in livestock.

Secretary General of the Agriculture Ministry Kasdi Subagyono detailed the budget allocation, comprising Rp2.6 trillion for vaccine procurement and its supporting facilities, Rp866.2 billion for vaccine operational needs, Rp570 billion for livestock data collection, Rp225 billion for livestock replacement, and Rp159.5 billion for handling and preventing the spread of foot and mouth disease.

He delivered the statement during a meeting with Commission IV of the House of Representatives at the Parliament Building here on Monday.

"Procurement of vaccines and their supporting facilities is (worth) Rp 2.6 trillion, total of two vaccines plus one booster vaccine (for each livestock). The total number of doses is 43.6 million, which we will administer in order to vaccinate the livestock," Subagyono added.

This figure included as many as 3.3 million vitamins and medicines, 312 kg of disinfectant, vaccination and medicine support logistics, cold chain, vaccine and drug distribution, pre-vaccination rapid testing, vaccine production equipment and machines worth Rp65 billion, and taking and testing the FMD.

As for the vaccination's operational matter, Rp738 billion will be utilized for the two-dose vaccination, Rp32 billion for medical operations, Rp37 billion for biosecurity of the technical operational unit nursery, Rp 29 billion for biosecurity of animal and village market operations, and Rp28 billion to train vaccination officers.

Some Rp297 billion was for data collection details of livestock, with ear tags as markers, Rp10.9 billion on applicator of livestock data collection, Rp195 billion on operational data collection, Rp16.9 billion for coordination and reporting of the disease's handling, and Rp46.7 billion for advocacy and information dissemination regarding efforts to mitigate the outbreak.

To replace livestock that died as a result of the disease, Rp15 million per cattle would be offered to replace each of the 15 thousand livestock, thereby reaching a total of Rp225 billion.

Moreover, Rp100 billion was for animal distribution control operations as well as Rp53.5 billion for transportation for traffic control, and Rp6 billion for checkpoints.
