Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor has sent 376 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to South Korea under the government-to-government (G-to-G) Employment Permit System (EPS) Program.

According to a written statement here on Tuesday, Noor saw off the departure of 376 PMIs for South Korea to work in the manufacturing and fisheries sectors.

At the release event in Depok, West Java, on Monday (June 27), he lauded the South Korean government for its cooperation in supporting the placement process of migrant workers under the G-to-G scheme.

From December 2021 to May 2022, around 2,290 Indonesian migrant workers have been placed in South Korea, according to the statement.

On June 6-7, 2022, some 287 PMIs departed, and two days later, some 149 PMIs also left for South Korea. On June 21, some 137 migrant workers were dispatched again.

Noor also pointed out that the opportunity to work in South Korea is an experience that provides several benefits, such as acquiring skills, knowledge, and adequate income, as well as improving the family's standard of living.

According to Noor, the success of the EPS placement is not only the success of the Indonesian government but also the success of selected PMIs, who patiently follow each placement process.

"The placement of these 376 migrant workers is also the success of the PMI family members, who continue to give support and hope, including the Indonesian people, in general, be it neighbors or relatives, who share information about opportunities to work in South Korea under the EPS Program," he stated.

Furthermore, he noted that Indonesian migrant workers are not merely foreign exchange "heroes," who contribute greatly to the national economy but are also the country's ambassadors, who introduce the country's tourism, culture, and culinary wealth to the country of placement.
