"Through this campaign, (we aim) to raise public awareness so as not to commit acts of sexual harassment on public transportation, particularly trains," chairperson of the commission, Andy Yentriyani, said in a written statement received here on Wednesday.
Jakarta Area of Operation 1 at PT KAI Persero and the women’s commission will collaborate to conduct the campaign against sexual harassment at Gambir Station, Pasar Senen, Cikarang, and Karawang.
The campaign will also urge people to respect fellow passengers as a means to build a sense of security and comfort for everyone.
PT KAI needs to conduct the campaign against sexual harassment in order to make sure that the transportation mode is safe for women, Yentriyani said. It is expected that the two entities will continue their collaboration in the future, particularly to inform and educate people about applicable policies and guidelines within and outside KAI's scope.
Moreover, the anti-sexual harassment campaign is expected to serve as a way to promote Constitutional rights, which include the people’s right to feel safe, including while using public transportation.
She said she expects other transportation modes besides PT KAI to also participate in the effort to prevent sexual harassment on public transportation.

Chairperson of the community participation sub-commission of the National Commission on Violence Against Women, Veryanto Sitohang, said that the company's efforts to prevent sexual harassment and violence must take other public transportation modes into account as well.
Moreover, public transportation modes in Indonesia tend to be risky for women and other vulnerable groups. Thus, it is necessary to make efforts to prevent sexual violence on public transportation to make them safer.
PT KAI has disseminated information and educated people about violence and sexual harassment at a number of stations in 25 sessions in the period from 2021 to June 2022.
KAI officers, both at stations and on trains, will continue to monitor for any incidents of violence or sexual harassment. However, they have appealed to the public to exercise caution and report any such acts.
