The region that recorded the most cases of FMD at 570 was Rejang Lebong district, head of the office, M. Syarkawi, said here on Wednesday.
Of the 869 livestock infected with FMD, 2 died and 70 recovered from the disease, he informed.
Thus, Bengkulu province's active FMD case count reached 797, with cases spread across seven regions: Kepahiang, Rejang Lebong, North Bengkulu, Seluma, South Bengkulu, Central Bengkulu, and Mukomuko districts.
"Farm animals that are infected with FMD are cattle and goats, and the number is increasing every day," he noted.
Despite the continuous increase in FMD cases, as many as 518 heads of livestock in the province have received the FMD vaccine: 200 in Kepahiang district, 100 in Rejang Lebong district, and 218 in South Bengkulu district.
The central government has allocated 4 thousand doses of the special FMD vaccine for Bengkulu province.
As part of the effort to curb the spread of FMD in Indonesia, the Ministry of Agriculture rolled out its FMD vaccination program for livestock from Sidoarjo district, East Java, on June 14.
Vaccine doses are being prioritized for healthy animals that are at high risk of infection, such as animals at livestock breeding centers, community-owned dairy farms, dairy cooperatives, and beef cattle farms.
The Ministry of Agriculture has forecast that 17 million livestock, or around 80 percent of the livestock population in provinces affected by the disease, will receive the vaccine.
