Kumolo was receiving intensive treatment at the hospital since mid-June of 2022.
Secretary of the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry Rini Widyantini confirmed the news of his demise.
"We seek prayers from the public. May he rest in peace," she noted in a statement received here on Friday.
Widyantini stated that further information regarding the funeral of the late minister would be conveyed later.
During the earlier office period of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), the late minister served as home affairs minister from October 27, 2014, to October 20, 2019.
He was also a politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), serving the party as its secretary general for the 2010-2015 period.
Masinton Pasaribu, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and a PDIP politician, also confirmed the sad news.
"It is true that Mr. Tjahjo (Kumolo) passed away at the Abdi Waluyo Hospital at 11:10 a.m. WIB," he remarked.
Pasaribu noted that Kumolo had been treated at the hospital prior to the PDIP National Working Meeting on June 21, 2022.
The House member stated that he lacked information regarding the illness of the late minister, though he was notified about Kumolo suffering from complications.

He added that PDIP was deeply saddened by the mournful news.
It was earlier reported that the late minister was undergoing intensive treatment due to lung infection.
In his absence, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD was appointed by President Jokowi to serve as the ad interim Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister.
As the ad interim minister, Mahfud had chaired national coordination meetings as well as provided guidance regarding non-state civil servants (ASN), honorary staff, and outsourcing.
