"Today, the heads of institutions, both the Communication and Informatics Ministry and KPU RI, made a joint commitment to provide mutual support. The ministry provides support related to its main tasks and functions, such as access and readiness of infrastructure," Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate explained here on Wednesday.
According to Plate, the communication technology infrastructure begins from upstream to downstream, so its optimization can be realized during the 2024 elections.
In the upstream sector, he said, physical infrastructure, such as communication networks, is a priority that should be enhanced.
Meanwhile, in terms of the downstream sector, digital services, such as digital applications for elections, will also be strengthened by the ministry.
Cooperation between the ministry and KPU is also expected to maintain transparency, especially during the recapitulation of votes at polling stations in the regions in order to maintain public trust.
"We have communicated with the minister regarding strengthening signals, so that if the KPU uses a recapitulation information system for counting votes at polling stations, then there can be acceleration, transparency, and accountability that can be witnessed together," KPU RI Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari explained.
Furthermore, experiences from earlier elections will be used as a reference for system improvement and strengthening general elections technology.
Factors, such as the population increase and the establishment of new regions, are also taken into account to maximize electoral implementation.
"The addition and distribution (of regions) is becoming wider, and of course, this is related to the availability of telecommunications networks. We will coordinate how the service can be optimal to be provided. KPU will be able to conduct its duties on elections smoothly," Plate added.
