Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo has lauded the General Election Commission's (KPU’s) preparations for the 2024 election, including the updation of voter data and polling stations.

As of March 2022, the number of voters has been pegged at 190,573,769 and polling stations at 695,102.

"To ensure better stages of the 2024 General Election, the General Election Commission has also utilized information technology through the One Data Web, among others, bringing Sirekap (Recapitulation Application), Silog (Logistics Application), Silon (Nomination Application), Sidakam (Campaign Fund Application), Sidapil (Nomination Application), Sipol (Political Party Application), and Sidalih (Voter List Application)," Soesatyo said in a statement received here on Wednesday.

He made the statement after the unveiling of the 2024 General Election stages at the General Election Office, Jakarta, on Tuesday evening (June 14, 2022).

He said that the commission must work hard to ensure that every stage of the general election runs well. As per the schedule, the registration and verification of voters would be conducted from June 29 to December 13.

The determination of voters will take place on December 14, and the determination of the number of seats and electoral districts will take place from October 14 this year to February 9, 2023.

The nominations for the post of president and vice president have been scheduled from October 19 to November 25, 2023, the election campaign period will begin on November 28, 2023, and end on February 10, 2024.

The next stages will be election silence on February 11–13, 2024, voting on February 14, 2024, and the counting of votes on February 14 and 15, 2024. The recapitulation of vote counting results will take place from February 15 to March 20, 2024.

After the general elections end, the commission will face another tough task: conducting successful and simultaneous regional elections on November 27, 2024, Soesatyo added.

The simultaneous election aims to elect as many as 271 regional heads, consisting of 24 governors, 56 mayors, and 191 district heads.

"We are optimistic that the stages of the 2024 Simultaneous General Election and Pilkada will run according to schedule and will be successful. The simultaneous general elections and regional elections in Indonesia in 2024 could be the largest general election in the world," he said.

The success of the 2024 Simultaneous General Election and Regional Head Election would strengthen Indonesia's position as the largest democracy in the world, he remarked.
