Jakarta (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR) has lauded the Attorney General Office's for receiving an award from the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry for ensuring legal access for women and children.

"Congratulations to the Attorney General's Office. However, don't be complacent. Use this award as a motivation to continue to improve performance in law enforcement as a whole, (while) still paying attention to cases that happen to women and children," a member of Commission III of the House, Andi Rio, said here on Thursday.

Cases of violence against women and children cannot be tolerated, so the Attorney General's Office must take measures to deter the perpetrators of such acts, he added.

The office's contribution in resolving various cases involving women and children has shown that the legal rights of women and children were ensured as expected, he said.

If necessary, assistance for the victims must also be added. Not just from the ministry, but also from stakeholders, he suggested.

He then expressed the hope that all law enforcement officials at the office would enforce Law Number 12 of 2022 on the Crime of Sexual Violence.

He said he believes that the attorney general's office would implement the law well to deal with criminal cases involving women and children.

"Let us support the work of the Attorney General's Office. I am sure that the Attorney General's Office will be able to accept constructive criticism and suggestions in order to realize fair law enforcement," he added.

Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin received the award from Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati for taking successful measures to ensure legal access for women and children.

Based on information received here on Wednesday (July 13), Burhanuddin received the award and appreciation from the minister for pursuing the formulation of the sexual violence crime law, and by extension, providing an opportunity to the ministry to assist crime victims.

"We are committed to (ensuring a) deterrent effect for perpetrators and offer protection to victims, (to emphasize that) the state is present in the process of law enforcement in public," Burhanuddin affirmed.

He said that his administration is very concerned and focused on cases involving violence against women and children, a number of which have been reported recently, such as in Jombang, Batu city, and Banyuwangi.

The award was bestowed by Darmawati during a meeting Burhanuddin at the Kartika Adhyaksa Tower Building in Jakarta.
