The scholarship (program) is aimed at improving the academic qualifications of madrasah teachers, Islamic religious education teachers in schools, and teachers in pesantrens, who have not held a bachelor's degree
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Religious Affairs, in collaboration with the Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), will offer undergraduate scholarships to two thousand Islamic religious education teachers in madrasahs (Islamic schools), pesantrens (Islamic boarding schools), and schools.

"The scholarship (program) is aimed at improving the academic qualifications of madrasah teachers, Islamic religious education teachers in schools, and teachers in pesantrens, who have not held a bachelor's degree," daily executive of Director General of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Suyitno noted in a written statement here on Monday.

Suyitno pointed out that from the database of the Information System for Educators and Education Personnel of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Simpatika), as many as 3,912 Islamic religious education teachers in madrasahs still needed to improve their academic qualifications.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Religious Teacher Administration Information System (Siaga), 14,695 Islamic religious education teachers in schools did not hold a bachelor's degree.

Suyitno noted that the issue of teachers holding low academic qualifications was not only observed in madrasahs and schools but also in pesantrens since several teachers still did not meet the academic qualification of holding a bachelor's degree.

He assessed that the scholarship is an excellent opportunity that should be utilized by teachers, especially since the scholarship program is implemented online, which is flexible yet of good quality.
