Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Inventors' Association (AII) offered the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to collaborate in the commercialization of inventions and innovations within the scope of BRIN.

"We are also discussing several proposals with BRIN, especially in the Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization, on how to encourage inventions that are within BRIN's scope, so that they can soon be commercialized," AII Chairman Didiek Hadjar Goenadi told reporters here on Monday.

Goenadi explained that AII's collaboration with BRIN is expected to contribute to similar targets of the two institutions, including valuation of technology produced by research, mediation to industry, mentoring for independent inventors, and development of innovation capacity.

AII will also work with the Indonesian Researchers Union (PPI) to coach researchers to become great inventors and build the invention capacity of PPI member researchers.

In addition to cooperating with BRIN, AII will work with higher education institutions, such as polytechnics, where research activities to produce inventions and innovations are widely conducted.

"There (higher education institutions) are very passionate about creating inventions, but they still need to be directed, so that the inventions must lead to the aspect of benefit. The aspect of benefit means it can be commercialized," Goenadi explained.

According to the AII chairman, the results of commercialization of inventions and innovations are one way to increase Non-Tax State Revenues (PNBP).

Currently, he pointed out that the AII was initiating cooperation with several universities, including the University of Indonesia.

Goenadi revealed the cooperation was initiated with the objective of finding whether the inventions are worthy of commercialization or still require follow-up stages to improve their feasibility in the industry.

Meanwhile, AII has signed a collaboration agreement with the State Polytechnic of Malang, East Java, to boost the commercialization of technology produced by polytechnic inventors.
