Jakarta (ANTARA) - Nine political parties have registered on the first day of the party registration period for the 2024 General Elections, General Elections Commission (KPU) Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari stated.

"Praise be to God that until now, we have eight political parties that visited the KPU office and registered their parties as participants for the 2024 General Elections, while one other party (registered) at 1 p.m. local time," Asy'ari remarked here, Monday.

Political parties registered on the first day of the registration period are the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Justice and Unity Party (PKP), Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Reform Party, and Just and Prosperous Indonesia Party (PRIMA).

Other parties that registered during the day were Perindo Party, NasDem Party, Crescent Star Party (PBB), and Pandai Party.

The KPU chairperson said that during the party registration period, officials of the electoral commission will examine whether political parties have submitted complete documents.

"The completion of required documents will be examined. If the document is deemed complete, then the KPU RI will issue a statement declaring that the requirement has been completed, and that the party has been registered," Asy'ari expounded.

He noted that political parties still have time until August 14 at 12:00 a.m. local time to complete their party's registration requirements.

While Asy'ari could not furnish details on how long the document verification process would take, he said that the average time needed for the process in the last election was five hours.

The official then expressed optimism that the party registration process for the 2024 elections would be completed sooner than that during the earlier elections.

"(This is) because the Sipol (Political Party Information System) has been activated sooner, and political parties have uploaded (the required documents) to the Sipol system earlier. It is possible that the document completion verification process will take less time now," Asy'ari remarked.
