People need to be constantly reminded that preventing diseases is much better than medication. This campaign will continue to be undertaken across regions in Indonesia along with the Germas program.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has urged citizens to maintain their health by routinely performing exercise.

Maintaining health is very important amid health emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the methods to do this is routine exercise, an official from the ministry, Agus Suprapto, told ANTARA here on Tuesday.

The government is rolling out the Healthy Community Movement (Germas) once again since the COVID-19 pandemic has started to come under control in the country, he noted.

This is being done in accordance with the Indonesian President’s Instruction No. 1 of 2017 on the health community movement to encourage people to prioritize preventive health, he explained.

"People need to be constantly reminded that preventing diseases is much better than medication. This campaign will continue to be undertaken across regions in Indonesia along with the Germas program," he remarked.

As part of the implementation of the instruction, the government will bolster education on the importance of increasing physical activities and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, he informed.

"We will also encourage the people to routinely conduct health examination and early disease detection as well as invite people to maintain environmental cleanliness to support a clean and healthy lifestyle," Suprapto said.

The ministry will continue to play an active role along with other related ministries and institutions in the effort to disseminate information and educate people about the importance of a clean and healthy lifestyle, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We will also encourage all regional governments to continue to promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle and maintain the health of residents in their respective regions," he added.
