I think there are relatively more (number of) electric cars this time as compared to the previous GIIAS exhibitions
Tangerang (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto praised the various types of electric vehicles (EVs) presented at the 2022 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) automotive exhibition in South Tangerang, Thursday.

"I think there are relatively more (number of) electric cars this time as compared to the previous GIIAS exhibitions. I appreciate it, congratulations," Hartarto stated while opening the automotive exhibition.

Furthermore, he noted that the government, through various regulations and incentives, was present to further familiarize the use of electric vehicles among members of the public.

"The government has issued incentives through Government Regulation (PP) Number 74 of 2021 and PP Number 73 of 2019 on Taxable Goods Classified as Luxury in the Form of Motorized Vehicles Subject to Sales Tax on Luxury Goods," the minister explained.

According to Hartarto, the government's policies and subsidies are also expected to make EV prices more competitive along the same lines as conventional cars in an effort to persuade the public to shift to using EVs.

"In addition, the state-owned electricity company, PLN, is encouraged to establish a charging station ecosystem for electric vehicles. EVs are priced in the Rp200-300 million range. This is a good consideration," Hartarto added.

On the other hand, General Chairman of Gaikindo Yohannes Nangoi expressed optimism that the 2022 GIIAS exhibition would serve as a momentum for the revival and bright future of the national automotive industry.

"We believe the future of automotive in Indonesia can be brighter," he added.

The 2022 GIIAS will be held at the Indonesia Convention Center (ICE) in BSD City, South Tangerang, on August 11-21, 2022.

This will be continued with GIIAS Surabaya on September 14-18, 2022, at the Grand City Convex, followed by GIIAS Medan on October 5-9, 2022, at the Santika Premier Hotel and Convention, and GIIAS Makassar on November 16-20, 2022, at the Celebes Convention Center.
