Jakarta (ANTARA) - US President, Joe Biden, through a message sent by the US Embassy in Jakarta, congratulated and conveyed well-wishes to Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the Indonesian people on the 77th anniversary of Indonesia's independence.

"Dear Mr. President (Jokowi), on behalf of the United States of America and the American people, I congratulate you and the people of Indonesia as you celebrate your nation's independence on August 17," Biden noted in a written message to President Jokowi, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy and received here on Tuesday.

In the written statement, Biden remarked that as two of the world's largest democracies, the United States and Indonesia celebrate their independence milestone amid a long and shared history built on the common visions of "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" and "E Pluribus Unum."

E Pluribus Unum is the motto of the United States. The sentence is taken from Latin and literally means: "From many to one."

Those mottos of the two countries underscore the importance of inclusivity in building bridges within Indonesia's and US' diverse societies.

"On this Indonesian Independence Day, I look forward to all that our two countries will do together to advance our shared commitment to democracy and work to build a lasting peaceful, prosperous, and resilient Indo-Pacific region," President Biden said in his message.

"The United States celebrates this joyous day with you as both friends and strategic partners," Biden stated.
