Even though West Java has the largest population in Indonesia, we can achieve the national vaccination target by prioritizing innovation and collaboration strategies
Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - West Java Governor M. Ridwan Kamil noted that innovation and collaboration were key to the achievement of the COVID-19 vaccination target in West Java, whose population reaches 50 million people.

"Even though West Java has the largest population in Indonesia, we can achieve the national vaccination target by prioritizing innovation and collaboration strategies," he stated while delivering his remarks at the ceremony for the commemoration of Indonesia's 77th Independence Day Anniversary at the Gasibu Field here on Wednesday.

On the occasion, Kamil reported on developments pertaining to the COVID-19 vaccination achievement in West Java.

According to Kamil, the coverage of first dose vaccination has reached 85.98 percent, or 36,635,808 residents inoculated.

Meanwhile, the second dose vaccination coverage had reached 74.60 percent, or 31,788,321 people, while the third dose vaccination coverage has reached 33.35 percent, or 14,211,328 people.

At the ceremony, he said 2022 was the third year that the Indonesian people had celebrated the Independence Day anniversary amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the current pandemic situation is under much greater control, as the country has entered a transition period from a pandemic to an endemic.

In comparison with several other countries, Indonesia is classified as being successful in making efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, he stated.

"This is all because of our joint efforts. (We are) collaborating and encouraging innovation in solving various problems caused by this pandemic (as well as conducting) the joint synergy between committees, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), health workers, and the community in accelerating vaccinations," he remarked.

As part of the efforts to boost community immunity against COVID-19, the Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021.

According to data provided by the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of August 17, 2022, as many as 203,027,594 Indonesians had received the first vaccine dose, 170,549,667 were administered the second dose, and 58,903,239 had taken the booster dose.
