Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD called on the Judicial Commission (KY) to intensify its supervision of judges to achieve just law enforcement.

"I understand that the Supreme Court and the Judicial Commission have exerted their utmost efforts -- which I respect -- yet we must also realize that KY needs to optimize its efforts too," Mahfud stated at the Judicial Commission office here, Wednesday.

The coordinating minister made the remarks while speaking at the "Strengthening the role of Judicial Commission to Preserve and Enforce the Honour, Dignity, and Behaviour of Judges" seminar being held to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the commission here.

The commission's supervision of judges can be perceived as sub-optimal since law enforcers continue to arrest several judges on grounds of abusing their official capacity, according to the minister.

"Nowadays, the number of judges arrested is increasing. This means that constitutional reform and the presence of the Judicial Commission are not optimum to address violations committed by judges," Mahfud pointed out.

He also urged the commission to ensure solidarity, integrity, honesty, and transparency in the internal organization while conducting daily duties.

The values of integrity, honesty, discipline, transparency, and accountability should be ingrained in every member of the Judicial Commission while conducting daily duties supported by enforced regulations that become the basis of their duty and decision-making process, the coordinating minister stated.

By ensuring the quality of the organization and personnel, the commission could conduct its duties to create a clean and authoritative Indonesian justice system, he remarked.

"Maintain our dignity, return to our foundation that the Judicial Commission established to maintain the dignity of every judge to create an authoritative judicial system," Mahfud affirmed.
