The G20 DEWG meeting is economic cooperation rather than a political defense pact.
Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) - The G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) will not seek to discuss global geopolitical issues, particularly between Russia and Ukraine, Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate has said.

"The G20 DEWG meeting is economic cooperation rather than a political defense pact," he told the press here, on Thursday.

Plate said he realized the fact that several G20 member states had denounced Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

However, some G20 members did not want to discuss the topic, arguing that the DEWG is not a forum for discussing politics, but rather it aims to serve as a platform for economic cooperation, he added.

"Indonesia is aware of the impact of the geopolitical situation on the global economy. As the neutral and impartial president of the G20, Indonesia has bridged discussions that align with the main mandate of the DEWG--digital economic issues and not political issues," he said.

According to Plate, the mechanism of the DEWG meeting and its peak meeting, which he leads is the general view of digital economic ministers. There was no debate among the ministers during the meeting.

"As a chairman, Indonesia is a moderator of the meeting. It is not easy to conciliate views but (we) managed to solve the issue well through Chain Summary," he informed.

In addition to containing the agreement on DEWG, Plate said the document also accommodated the dynamics of discussions among delegates in responding to global challenges.
