Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) A. A. La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti expressed optimism that Indonesia's sports achievements would continue to be increased globally.

"So far, sports have always been the nation's representations that carry the good name of this country on the international stage. Hence, more attention should be paid to the world of sports. I strongly support the ideals of the National Sports Committee (KONI) in uniting towards global achievements," Mattalitti, currently serving as Chairman of the Muaythai Indonesia Management Board, stated here on Monday.

The DPD speaker expressed this aspiration while attending KONI's 2022 National Working Meeting (Rakernas) and the Extraordinary National Deliberation (Musornaslub) on Monday.

To enhance the country's sports achievements, he said, efforts that can be made include structuring the organization to become more productive and paying attention to coaching issues.

"I hope that this KONI National Working Meeting would provide a decision to maximize the coaching sector in the country. The key to global achievements is fair and sportive coaching," he explained.

Mattalitti stated that KONI must map out the sports events and branches that have the potential to be optimized.

"For events, there are priority activities that KONI must prepare, such as the SEA Games, Asian Games, Olympics, or the U-23 World Cup, as well as domestic events, such as PON (National Sports Week), and many more. From these events, there are mainstay branches to win medals, such as badminton, archery, weightlifting, and others. These have to be bolstered," he remarked.

The KONI National Working Meeting, themed "United Towards Global Achievements" or "Bersatu Menuju Prestasi Global," was also attended by the chairpersons of sports associations and KONI provincial management throughout Indonesia.
