Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate met with Denmark's Ambassador to Indonesia, Lars Bo Larsen, to discuss the Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) program.

"We continued discussions related to the development of Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR), a program for community protection and disaster mitigation. This program (will involve) technology from Denmark that is offered to Indonesia," Plate informed here on Friday.

He said that the Danish government has been actively communicating with ministries and agencies across relevant sectors so that the PPDR can be adopted in Indonesia.

According to him, the Communication and Informatics Ministry and Denmark's Embassy in Indonesia have been coordinating with the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) to discuss financing for the program.

"The Danish government is also currently communicating with the Finance Ministry for projects or developments financed through G2G (government-to-government) financing," he said.

The program is considered suitable for Indonesia considering its geographical location and the many potential disasters that pose a threat to the country: Indonesia is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire and thereby, prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, he said.

Hence, Indonesia needs a better security system against those disasters to protect the community, the minister stressed.

"This is a huge and important program for Indonesia, considering that Indonesia is located within the Ring of Fire area, where disasters often occur. The focus is still there," he added.

During their meeting, Plate and Larsen also discussed the potential for cooperation in the technology sector, related to Indonesia's cooperation with Scandinavian countries, which Denmark is a part of.

"We also had a lot of discussions on the potential development of technological cooperation between Indonesia and Scandinavia in this case, including Denmark," Plate said.
