Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) approved a grant proposal worth Rp56.8 billion for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Pesisir Selatan District, West Sumatra, for the 2023 fiscal year.

BNPB's Deputy for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Jarwansyah remarked here on Wednesday that the approval could not be separated from the region's good utilization of the grant, such as the budget absorption to the quality of construction.

"If it is possible, (the grant proposal value) can be increased. (However) do not propose if the realization is minimal," Jarwansyah noted while receiving the Pesisir Selatan District head.

The district head visited BNPB's office in the company of Chief of the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Doni Gusrizal, Head of the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Division Yuskardi, and Public Relations Head Vorzil Yandrison.

Jarwansyah said in addition to the factor of sound budget absorption and results, the proposal was approved based on the efforts to accelerate infrastructure development in Pesisir Selatan, especially in areas damaged by natural disasters.

The community needs adequate basic infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and irrigation facilities, as a means to support economic activities there, he pointed out.

He expects the Pesisir Selatan district government to again submit additional proposals for the 2023 budget, so that the growth target can be achieved.

"With a note, it should be in the priority scale which means what is really needed right now," Jarwansyah stated.

On the occasion, Pesisir Selatan District Head Rusma Yul Anwar stated that the grant proposal was submitted, as his administration sought to repair several infrastructures that were damaged due to heavy rainfall that lashed the region in December 2021.

"The amount of grant for rehabilitation and reconstruction submitted next year (2023) is much greater than this year (2022), which is only Rp6.3 billion," he remarked.

In the proposal, the construction encompasses the rehabilitation of bridges and roads in several sub-districts.
