"Next October, (TMII) will be used for G20 (activities)," Head of the G20 Infrastructure Development Acceleration Task Force Achmad Gani Ghazaly Akman said here on Wednesday.
Once the park’s renovation is complete, it will be visited by heads of state and delegates during G20 events in Jakarta, he added.
He assured that TMII, whose renovation budget reached Rp1.08 trillion (US$71.2 million), is ready to welcome G20 delegates and, later, residents and tourists wanting to visit the cultural park.
"Next October, (TMII) will host G20 events. Afterward, the park will be opened gradually for public visits," Akman said.
However, he did not disclose a timeline for the public opening as the authority is awaiting the completion of G20 activities at the park.
Earlier, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono had said that a more natural concept has been applied for the revitalization to make TMII a people's tourism park.
Further, in the archipelago park, the government has added miniatures of Miangas Island and Rote Island. It has also increased the number of pavilions representing each province in Indonesia to 37.
The Tugu Api (fire monument), which was earlier surrounded by ceramics, will also be planted with grasses and legumes to highlight the natural concept of TMII.
The TMII revitalization has been regulated by Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 116 of 2021 concerning the acceleration of infrastructure development to support the implementation of international events in the provinces of Bali, Jakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.
The park's revitalization is in line with Indonesia's G20 presidency, and it will serve as one of the venues for the G20 Summit.
