Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Waterski and Wakeboard Association (PB PSAWI) is ready to bolster the country's water sports, its chairman, Danny Boestami, said after the new management was installed on Thursday.

In 2023, PB PSAWI will hold a national water sports championship in Lake Toba, North Sumatra, which will serve as a preparation for the 2024 National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh-North Sumatra.

"In addition, we will also continue preparations for the 2028 PON in West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara. We are trying to form managements in the two provinces," Boestami informed at the inauguration of the PB PSAWI management board for the 2021–2025 period at the National Sports Committee (KONI) Office here on Thursday.

In addition to national championships, there are plans to hold an Asian-level competition in Jakarta in 2023, Boestami revealed.

"The Asian Championships (may be held) between September and October. There is still a year to prepare. Ahead of the 2024 PON, we must continue to coordinate with the provinces," he added.

He said that during his leadership, he will expand the number of PB PSAWI management branch members, which is currently 19. "Our target is to add 5 more and hopefully, our common goal can be achieved," he informed.

Meanwhile, head of the Central National Sports Committee, Lieutenant General Marciano Norman, expressed the hope that PB PSAWI will prepare athletes through training and participation in many events.

As an archipelagic country, Indonesia is well-suited for holding water sports events, which will attract global athletes to come to compete in Indonesia, he added.

"We have to make world-class athletes, take advantage of Indonesia's natural beauty, and the great program of water skiing and wakeboarding that can support sports tourism," Norman remarked.
