Malang, Jawa Timur (ANTARA) - The Malang district government, East Java province, has prepared a team to provide trauma recovery services for victims of a stampede that broke out following a football match at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, on October 1, 2022.

After accompanying President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to Kanjuruhan Stadium, the head of Malang district, M. Sanusi, said that the district government has prepared the service in collaboration with the East Java provincial government.

"Later, it will be assisted by the East Java Provincial Health Service and the doctors' association. It was prepared yesterday," he informed in Malang on Wednesday.

Victims of the Kanjuruhan tragedy who are sick or have health problems can go directly to the hospital for treatment, he said.

Victims of the Kanjuruhan stampede can visit the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Kanjuruhan and victims in Malang city can visit Saiful Anwar Hospital.

"All (treatment) costs are free. For Malang district, the district government will pay for it, and victims visiting Saiful Anwar Hospital will be covered by the East Java Governor," he added.

He said that the Malang district government has kept the information center for Kanjuruhan victims open at the Malang District Health Service.

"The crisis center is still open," he remarked, adding that, in general, the condition of hospitalized victims has begun to improve.

A stampede broke out at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang district, on the night of October 1 after a match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya.

Security officers, who included Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) officers, used tear gas to disperse angry fans, causing panicked spectators to rush out of the stadium.

In the ensuing chaos, many people died or were injured. According to data from the Malang District Health Service, the crowd crush at Kanjuruhan Stadium caused 131 deaths and left 440 people lightly injured and 29 people severely injured.
