Jakarta (ANTARA) - Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali has confirmed that the Youth Pledge Day commemoration ceremony on October 28, 2022, will take place at the new capital Nusantara, East Kalimantan.

"I have informed (President Joko Widodo about) the plan to organize the Youth Pledge commemoration ceremony on October 28 at the new capital," Amali said at the Presidential Palace complex here on Friday.

The President has permitted the plan though he has not confirmed his attendance at the ceremony yet, the minister added.

"The President allowed (the plan to proceed), and I also invited the President (to the ceremony)," Amali said.

Last year, President Widodo attended the Youth Pledge commemoration ceremony, held via hybrid means, at TVRI Auditorium, Jakarta.

Earlier, the new capital site hosted the 77th Indonesian Independence commemoration on August 17.

Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority Bambang Susantono acted as the inspector, while the North Penajam Paser regional parliament (DPRD) member Sariman read the text of the Proclamation at the ceremony.

The ceremony started with the reading of the Proclamation text, followed by the observation of a moment of silence led by Susantono. At 10 a.m. local time (UTC +8), sirens were sounded for a minute to mark the moment of the Proclamation.

The ceremony continued with the raising of the national flag by six members of the Ex-Flag Hoisting Troop (Purna Paskibra) of 2020–2021 of North Penajam Paser district.

During the event, Susantono highlighted that the holding of the Independence Day ceremony at the new capital site aimed to reflect the government's commitment to relocating and building the new capital of Indonesia.

"The momentum of independence must be a (source of) motivation in the process of transferring and developing Indonesia's new capital," he emphasized.
