Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Foreign Affairs Ministry supports Indonesia to host the 20th General Assembly of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ) in Bali on October 12-15, 2022.

"I hope that it is time for Indonesian journalists to show the ASEAN delegation of journalists that Indonesia can play a big role in maintaining independence and commitment with the government," the ministry's Director General of Information and Public Diplomacy Teuku Faizasyah stated here Saturday.

According to Faizasyah, Indonesia, as host of the 20th CAJ General Assembly, must show that the Indonesian government and journalists can together create a peaceful climate for ASEAN countries.

CAJ Committee Chairperson Ahmed Kurnia Soeriawidjaja held a meeting with Faizasyah in Jakarta on Friday (October 7).

At the meeting, Soeriawidjaja discussed the ongoing preparations by the Indonesian Journalists Association as the host of the CAJ 20th General Assembly.

He said that both the central and local committee are ready to welcome the ASEAN journalist delegates that will arrive in Bali starting next week.

"The Central PWI chose Bali as the host location for the CAJ General Assembly, as this is also our momentum to show the world that Bali has recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic," Soeriawidjaja, who is the Foreign Affairs Chief of the Central PWI, explained.

Agus Sudibyo, Central PWI Advisory Board member, said the Bali Declaration will be conducted at the assembly after the presidency is officially handed over to the Central PWI Chairman Atal Sembiring Depari.

"There are a lot of things that can be collaborated together. Moreover, in 2023, Indonesia will become the Chair of ASEAN countries. This will be very interesting for the CAJ President and ASEAN Chair to synergize," Sudibyo stated.

At the meeting, the Ministry's Director of Information and Media Hartyo Harkomoyo, and Central PWI's Director of Communications and Public Relations Mercys Charles Loho were also present.
