Director of the BI Communications Department Junanto Herdiawan noted in an official statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, that the growth was higher than the previous month's increase of 4.9 percent (yoy).
The increase was chiefly supported by sales growth in the food, beverage and tobacco groups as well as sales in the other household equipment group and information and communication equipment group.
On a monthly basis, retail sales growth is estimated to contract by 0.9 percent (month-to-month/mtm), in line with declines in the spare parts and accessories category, the food, beverage and tobacco category, and motor vehicle fuels.
Meanwhile, in August 2022, Junanto said retail sales continued to grow positively, which was reflected in the IPR of 201.8, or grew 4.9 percent (yoy).
The positive performance in retail sales was supported by increasing growth in the food, beverage, and tobacco groups, amid persistently strong growth in the spare parts and accessories group, the clothing sub-group, as well as group of cultural goods and recreation.
On a monthly basis, retail sales growth in August 2022 also recorded a positive 0.8 percent (mtm), after contracting 3.1 percent (mtm) in the previous month, mainly supported by improvements in the food, beverage and tobacco groups, as well as the spare parts and equipment category.
In terms of prices, respondents estimate that inflationary pressure in November 2022 will tend to be stable and will decline in February 2023.
Expectation of General Price (IEH) in November 2022 was recorded at 135.4 or relatively stable, from 135.3 in the previous month. Meanwhile, the IEH in February 2023 was recorded at 138.7, or lower than the previous month at 144.7.
