Malang Mayor Sutiaji said that his administration is focusing on taking an inventory of the compensation announced for approximately 30 families of Malang city residents who died in the October 1, 2022, incident at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang.
"There is no need to mention the nominal, but this is a form of our commitment, while we take an inventory of assistance from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), the governor, city government, Ministry of Social Affairs, and East Java Bank," he added in Malang on Tuesday.
He said that he is continuing to check on other compensations announced for the families of Kanjuruhan victims.
While the compensation is not comparable to the grief of the families, it is a form of empathy from the local government, including the private sector, for the tragedy, he said.
"We continue to try to lighten the burden. Although we apologize, this cannot substitute the lives of the victims. This is a form of empathy from the government for the victims," he remarked.
Meanwhile, the parent of one victim who died in the Kanjuruhan incident, Mudrikah, said that so far his family has received several compensations from various parties.
He has received compensation from President Widodo, the Ministry of Social Affairs, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, the Malang city government, East Java Bank, and the management of Arema FC.
"There were no obstacles in the process of receiving the compensation, but I still have not recovered from the loss of my kid. It cannot be replaced by money," Mudrikah remarked.

Mudrikah’s daughter, Ria Amalia (19), had gone to watch the football match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at Kanjuruhan Stadium with her colleagues. She was the only daughter among Mudrikah’s six children.
"Her friend also died," he said.
On October 1, chaos broke out at Kanjuruhan Stadium after Arema FC’s 2-3 loss to Persebaya Surabaya caused several disappointed supporters to storm the pitch.
The chaos grew after a number of flares were thrown, including other objects. Joint security officers from the police and the Indonesian Defense Force (TNI) tried to dispel the supporters and in the end, fired tear gas.
Based on data from the Malang District Health Service, 131 people died in the ensuing crowd crush at the stadium, while 440 people sustained minor injuries and 29 people were seriously injured.

The police have named six suspects in connection with the stampede.
Three suspects are civilians: LIB (PT Liga Indonesia Baru) president director Ahmad Hadian Lukita; chairman of the Arema Malang executive committee, Abdul Haris; and security officer steward Suko Sutrisno; while three other suspects are from the police, namely the operation head of Malang Police, Commissioner Wahyu Setyo
