There should be a new method to conduct manpower inspection, given the difference in the number of manpower inspectors and the number of companies that have been monitored, the ministry's official, Yuli Adiratna, explained.
The ministry has 1,517 manpower inspectors, he stated during a virtual discussion held by the ministry, Tuesday.
Meanwhile, according to the data in 2016, the number of micro to major enterprises existing in Indonesia stood at 26.4 million, he said.
"We cannot possibly monitor them all and come to them one by one in a conventional manner. Hence, we develop self-inspection," he noted.
In this self-inspection concept, the ministry will provide a series of questions that have to be answered by companies. To this end, the companies must be honest, given that it has major implications.
The concept is currently in the trial stage, and the ministry will develop a web-based version of it, he remarked.
"This is what we are working on, and it has a long way to go. We disseminate (information on) it to manpower inspectors and also to all stakeholders," he remarked.
The ministry plans to have this inspection map out the level of manpower inspection and companies with low score that will be assisted to ensure compliance.
"We will attempt to dispel the image that inspectors come to look for mistakes and then deliver punishment. Instead, we must provide solutions," Adiratna stated.
During the event, Manpower Ministry's official, Haiyani Rumondang, reminded the business world to fulfill the rights of women workers, including those related to reproduction.
