Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Social Affairs Ministry is ready to host a high-level intergovernmental meeting for the final review of the implementation of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons or HLIGM-FRPD 2013–2022.

The HLIGM-FRPD meeting is a meeting of stakeholders from various countries in Asia and the Pacific to provide inputs on the progress achieved in the past ten years in efforts to protect and fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities and to determine new strategic directions.

Minister Rismaharini emphasized her concern, especially for accessibility in all fields.

"I hope that the meeting could bring new inputs for us to understand that disability is a part of all of us," she added.

Meanwhile, executive secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, said that the meeting would trace the progress of the 10 goals set out in the Incheon strategy.

The meeting is expected to produce a draft of the Jakarta Declaration, which will be implemented for the fulfillment of disability rights for the next ten years.

"This meeting will also deliver several challenges and commitments ahead, plus new things in technology, COVID-19, and private sector affirmations. All of this is stated in the Jakarta Declaration draft, so the meeting in the next three days is very important," Alisjahbana said.

The HLIGM-FRPD meeting will be attended by representatives of 31 member countries, 10 UN agencies, 3 association countries, and 50 civil society organizations in the Asia-Pacific region as well as 12 ministerial-level officials/heads of agencies from 11 countries in the region.
