Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned electricity company PT PLN has devised a road map to achieve zero-emission energy by 2060 across the company's activity lines, according to the company's director for retail and trade, Edi Srimulyanti.

He revealed that the company will no longer develop new fossil-based electric power plants, while existing and active fossil-based power plants with power purchase agreements would be allowed to continue operations as their contracts will not be rescinded.

"The number is not many, and we have stopped using fossil-based energy in newer (power plants)," Srimulyanti informed at the "Cut the Tosh Collaboration Summit 2022" here on Tuesday.

Newer power plants developed by the company will be new and renewable energy-based, as per the company's middle-term development plan, which extends up to 2030, he noted.

PT PLN has initiated programs to reduce the use of diesel-based power plants, which residents in remote areas rely upon as they use diesel to power their electricity generators, he added.

"We have registered and promoted local natural resources, which we can use as the energy source for the local community. While in the past they used diesel fuel-based power generators, we are converting the system into a new and renewable energy-based power plant," Srimulyanti explained.

He said that the company has also implemented co-firing at PT PLN's 33 steam power plants nationwide by mixing coal with biomass to make fuel for the plants to reduce carbon dioxide emission in electricity production.

PT PLN, through its retail business sector, is also offering conversion from fossil-based energy to green energy to prospective and existing customers, the director added.
