Fifth, we have proposed to establish a more equitable global research and development network, vaccine development and manufacturing, as well as therapeutic and diagnostic system.
Bali (ANTARA) - The 2nd Health Ministerial Meeting (HMM), which is the last meeting on the health sector during Indonesia's 2022 G20 Presidency, will discuss five focus areas, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated.

HMM is part of the Sherpa Track that discusses various global health issues. The second meeting will be held in Bali on October 27-28, 2022.

"This meeting is the pinnacle of the hard work of all G20 members over the past 10 months. All government partners and international organizations will discuss how to strengthen the global health architecture," the minister noted in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The first area of focus of the 2nd HMM is encouraging global actors’ commitment to the Financial Intermediary Fund (FIF).

"FIF is a strategy to bolster various attempts to prevent, prepare, and respond to a pandemic," Sadikin stated.

The other focus of the meeting includes pushing for attempts to mobilize better medical handling during global health emergencies.

"Thus, we can continue to treat everyone exposed during a pandemic," the minister remarked.

Furthermore, the meeting will explore ways to strengthen the global pathogen surveillance network, so it can detect the transmission of pathogens more optimally before the infectious agents cause a global pandemic.

The fourth focus is the pilot implementation of new international protocols to facilitate international mobility of people, goods, and service amid a global health emergency.

"Fifth, we have proposed to establish a more equitable global research and development network, vaccine development and manufacturing, as well as therapeutic and diagnostic system," he remarked.

He expects all G20 members to set aside their differences and continue to work together to strengthen the global health architecture.

The health ministry’s spokesperson for Indonesia’s 2022 G20 Presidency, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, stated here on Wednesday that Indonesia also invited other countries and international organizations outside the G20 members to the 2nd HMM.

Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the ASEAN Pacific Island Forum, African Union, the Caribbean Community, the World Health Organization (WHO), Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), World Bank, Global Alliances for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), as well as Global Fund were invited.

They were invited to provide inputs on the results of discussions at the meeting.

All inputs given by delegates will become a joint agreement in realizing a better global health architecture as well as a joint commitment of all heads of states attending the G20 Summit on November 14-16, 2022, Tarmizi noted.
